Where is El Chaparral located?

El Chaparral lies on the Western edge of Torrevieja on the Costa Blanca in Spain. It is surrounded by two salt lakes: The Laguna Saladas de Torrevieja. The neighbouring areas of Torrevieja with its beaches, Orihuela Costa and Alicante are easily accessible thanks to the good infrastructure.

What to do in El Chaparral?

Visit the Salt lakes 

The prime benefit of this area is its location next to the biggest salt lakes in Europe. This natural park has a wide variety of flora and fauna, including wild flamingos that bathe with their young. It is a popular destination for walking, hiking, and cycling. There are trails all around the lakes, with plenty of benches and shade. 

 The scenery is stunning, with the lakes turning different shades of purple and pink, depending on the light. This is because of the rare algae living in the salty water. Especially during the sunrise and sunset,  you will find people admiring the landscapes and impressive colorscheme. 

There are English guided tours available for anyone who likes to learn more about the history of the lakes. A train will bring you on location, where you get to see the lakes up close and climb the salt hill. It lasts about 1 hour and is very intriguing! 

And last, but definitely not least, the lakes provide many health benefits.  The location between the salt lakes, sea, and mountains creates a special microclimate. This, according to the WHO, is one of the healthiest in the world. The air is clean and full of extra Iodine and Sodium. This has many health benefits, such as:

1. The extra oxygen in the air leads to healthier blood pressure.

2. Iodine helps in balancing our serotonin levels, reducing anxiety and stress. 

3. Better sleep due to the higher air pressure.

4. The salty air helps keeping lungs clean, helps with colds, and eases breathing.

A day in water park Flamingo

Aqua park Flamingo in urbanization La Siesta. A great day out for younger children in a small and safe water park. The entrance is €13.00 for children and people over 60+, €15.00 for adults, and children under 4 go in for free. There are slides, restaurants, chill areas and a baby pool for the smallest ones. Furthermore, a lifeguard service is present to watch over everybody. Make sure to come early because the park closes its doors when full.

La Siesta Bowls Club

There are the self-proclaimed 'friendliest yet competitive bowls club on the Costa Blanca'. They welcome players of all levels and nationalities. Hamper, yardstick, football, 321 — you name, and they play it! Moreover, they play league games all over Alicante. If you're interested in sports or games, give this club a try. 

Where are the best restaurants in El Chaparral?

1. Restaurante Villasalada for the Mediterranean kitchen, barbecue, and seafood. They perform a show with horses and flamenco dancers, which is wonderful. We recommend their tasty paella. 

2. Reflections restaurant, British and international kitchen with great burgers, drinks, and events now and then. It has a cosy local feeling, with good quality for many values!

3. Restaurante Gran China for the best-rated Chinese and Asian kitchen in Torrevieja. They offer excellent food for good prices and quick service. The food is fresh and spicy. The waiters are very friendly and service minded. Moreover, try their daily menu where you’ll get a starter, main course and dessert + drink for as little as €10-€15. We recommend their spring rolls, and crème caramel!

4. Campobello pizzeria & restaurant for Italian kitchen and pizza! The food quality is consistently good, and the prices are low. It’s a nice place for casual occasions. 

What services can I expect in El Chaparral?

El Chaparral offers all the services you need for daily life. There are supermarkets, gas stations, convenient stores, bus stops, and kiosks throughout the area.

Important services such as The international university hospital is only 12 minutes driving, and pharmacy ‘La Siesta’ can be found in the Southern end of El Chaparral. 

There are small commercial centres with restaurants and bars that serve coffee with toast or English breakfast throughout the day. In the neighbourhood bars, you can enjoy live music or karaoke! It’s a very local and social area with a close community of neighbours.

This area enjoys a fortunate climate. It is warm and temperate, with an average annual temperature of 17.4 °C / 63.3 °F. Torrevieja also has an average of 325 sunny days per year!

How is the real estate market in El Chaparral?

El Chaparral is a quiet residential area with a mix of low rise bungalows, town houses and villas. These properties are mostly resale and often come with special bargains! The prices are very low in comparison to similar areas nearby.

The population of El Chaparral is international. There is a mix between Northern European expats and local Spanish residents. The average population consists of families with children, pensioners, and holiday seekers. This creates a calm and safe environment, excellent for everyday living and enjoying nature. 

The area consists of urbanizations, such as El Limonar, El Chaparral, El Dorado, and La Siesta. In some of these urbanizations you’ll find private areas for residents with parking spaces and communal pools. In contrast, living separately from these urbanizations gives you a lot of freedom to renovate, expand, or build on your house without having to conform to landscaping. This area is interesting for people who want to have freedom in terms of building.
