Where is Los Balcones located?
Los Balcones is a community South of the city Torrevieja on the Costa Blanca. It locates right next to the salt lake, close to fine beaches, and also the famous golf courses in Orihuela Costa. These features make the area well sought after to live, in proximity to every service.
Getting around is easy, thanks to the infrastructure links. There is a regular bus going to and from Torrevieja and the airport. Getting to the beach is a 30-minute walk, or a 5-minute bus ride. Furthermore, the two big shopping malls are within 10 minutes driving. We do recommend renting a car, since the area is slightly inland. It’s easier to get around by car and also much cheaper.
Los Balcones has a wide variety of things to do in the neighbourhood. The blue flag winning beaches are one of the most popular! Playa Torrevieja is the closest, at a five-minute drive or 25-minute walk. This beach with a green strip is calm and clean. It is located between coves and has stunning views. There are a children’s playground, and it's also close to restaurant Ferris: a beloved local restaurant with the best sea views.
Punta Primais a 7-minute drive away. This bubbly beach area is full of shops and bars. There are nice restaurants here, such as ‘Nautilus’ and ‘Restaurante Punta Prima’. Moreover, a beach bar ‘Chiringuito Del Sol’ is opened during the summer, serving meals and drinks. The beach is lined with a promenade and magnificent villas. There are public toilets and lifeguard services during high season. Safe and clean, this beach makes for a great day out!
Playa De Los Naufragosis a four-minute drive. This is a shorter, wider beach nearing Torrevieja. The quality of sand and water is great, as like any other beach here. This beach is also lined with a small promenade and palm trees. It’s equipped with public toilets, volleyball court, gym equipment and a climbing frame. The water here is calm and shallow, perfectly suitable for families with young children.

The nearby town of Orihuela Costa houses some of the best golf courses in Spain. There’s 4, under which the award-winning Las Colinas Golf & Country Club. This course has won titles such as ‘Spain's Best Golf Course’ and ‘Worlds leading Golf & Villa Resort’. It offers 18 holes par 71 with superb greens. Besides, there's also a gym, pool, wellness centre and beach club.
Villamartin Golf clubis said to be one of the best golf clubs in all of Spain. Its green environment, exciting holes, and old school golf feeling, make this course interesting for any level player. For a low-cost per round you can enjoy this varied course. Or participate in one of the regular tournaments. It’s possible to play in your language since this international area has players of all nationalities.
Las Ramblas Golfstands out for its beautiful landscapes, with natural watercourses and pine trees. The greens are wide-stretched and contain quick and gentle slopes. There are good practice facilities and a clubhouse.
Real Club De Golf Campoamorprovides varied and quality-oriented facilities. The course itself is challenging, with 6,277 meters around and par 7. The 4-star Hotel Golf Campoamor is a great destination. It has an outdoor pool, indoor pool, tennis-, and paddle courts, wellness centre, gym, restaurant, and cafeteria. There is something to offer to everyone.
The Sport Park
In this park, you can lose some energy. It has multiple sports fields for football, basketball, table tennis, field hockey, and even parkour for dogs. It’s located in the centre of Los Balcones. It’s very well maintained and free for everybody to use!
Tennis club Torrevieja
A great club for both beginners and experienced players. It’s well-kept and has a cosy café for beers afterwards. There are courts for both paddle and tennis. Moreover, it’s possible to schedule lessons from great teachers. They cost between €8.00 and €12.00. This club is very active and social, especially in the evenings. They organize many tournaments. The Salt lakes
The famous pink lakes border the North of Los Balcones. Not only are they breathtakingly beautiful, but they also significantly improve life for people living here. We will explain more about this in ‘Climate and Weather’.
The lakes are popular walking, cycling, and birdwatching places. The 2000 flamingo’s living here are well protected, and make a pretty landscape while bathing with their young.
The lake is pink due to the rare algae living in the water. With different light, the lake will colour all kinds of pink and purple.
Tours are running all year when you can learn everything about these lakes and see them from up close.
The restaurants
Restaurant Kalinka, a Russian/Eastern-European style kitchen. This family restaurant is owned by the wife (chef) and husband (server), together with their daughter, who does the interior decorating. It is very welcoming and pleasant. The food is all homemade, delicious, and authentic. We recommend you try this restaurant!
Restaurant Alingui, a European kitchen located in the Filton shopping centre. A Spanish restaurant that serves an extensive menu with a great 3-course lunch for under €10. The portions are generous and the quality is wonderful, especially for the little money that you pay.
Restaurante China Wan Juan, a Chinese/Asian kitchen. Fresh dishes for a good value! This restaurant’s best assets are its service and food quality. The outside is not very noticeable, however it is definitely worth making a stop here.
Restaurante El Cucharon, a Spanish Fusion style kitchen that is part of the DNA Monse Hotel. Tasty and nicely made up dishes. They serve great tapas with even better staff. After eating, you can enjoy a drink at the rooftop terrace with views.
Other activities in the neighbourhood
1. Visit shopping centre Filton in the centre of Los Balcones. For bigger shopping, you can go to La Zenia Boulevard5 kilometres to the South. This is the largest shopping mall of the costa Blanca. Habaneras Shopping Centre in Torrevieja is 5 kilometres North as well.
2. The Harbour of Torrevieja. A prominent location for this city. It is a beautiful harbour with great services, such as restaurant Les Planches, water sports, rental boats, and many docks. Furthermore, boat club Nautico is located by the marina.
3. Walk the Dique de Levante Breakwater pier, better known as the ‘cholesterol-stroll’. This is a scenic 1600-metre walk past the boats and harbour.
4. The market in Torrevieja every Friday morning from 8 am to 1 pm on La Avenida de Delfina Viudes. This is a big market with over 700 stalls selling fresh fruits, vegetables, clothing, shoes, and much more!
5. The street market in Playa Flamenca, all year from 8.30am to 14.00 every Saturday. There is ample parking on the roads close by and the market offers a large variety of products. These markets are not just for tourists!
6. Visit Villamartin Plaza. This is a square surrounded by shops, restaurants, and amenities. It is the leisure centre of Villamartin, with beautiful Spanish architecture, terracotta, music, and spices of the local cuisines. It’s a wonderful night out.
What services are there in Los Balcones?
The most important services for all day living, such as supermarkets Mercadonna and Dialprix, the international Hospitalof Torrevieja, and pharmacies are located close by. Moreover, furniture stores, kiosks, an English-speaking dentist, green parks, and public elementary school Romualdo Ballester can be found here. The closest gas station is Repsol GSA at the entrance of the area.
The free sports facilities are a popular amenity, especially with youngsters. The picnic area, fields, and parks get used a lot.
For services that you can’t find in Los Balcones, Torrevieja and Orihuela Costa are a stone throw away.
How is the weather and climate in Los Balcones?
Los Balcones enjoys a privileged climate, with average temperatures from 12 °C to 25 °C. The sea breeze keeps the summers cool and the winters mild, with over 325 sunny days a year!
Los Balcones is in between the salt lakes, the Crevillente mountains and the ocean. This creates a special microclimate that doesn’t only provide good weather, but also many health benefits:
