What to do in Playa Del Cura?
Del Cura Beach
Like many beaches in Torrevieja, this beach has the blue-flag award for cleanliness and safety. The environment can be best described as tranquil and colourful. During the early hours, you’ll see joggers, yoga, and early birds. Then there are families who don’t mind the heat of the day. In the evening there is usually music of some sort: guitarist, singers, sometimes an accordion player. Del Cura has a cosy atmosphere, especially at night.
It has great services, such as lifeguards, a first aid room, toilets, foot showers, and sun chairs. Ramps go up and down, making it accessible to everyone. You can come here for a lazy day, but also for activities; rent paddleboards, jet-ski’s or a fly board. Del Cura also has a rocky stretch at the North end of the beach that is perfect for fishing.
The promenade
The promenade passes the beach and goes all the way up the pier, where it splits into a market and is followed by the Vista Alegre Boulevard. It’s lined with palm trees and benches. This is a popular gathering spot with many restaurants. You’ll see families getting ready to go to dinner, children playing, and artists making music. It is one of the highlights of Torrevieja.
The best restaurants in Playa Del Cura
This area has a high density of eating facilities. The variety of restaurants and cuisines gives you many options. Here are some of our favourites:
Taberna Del Mar: Spanish food for a low price, with views at the promenade and beach. The service here is very friendly and their paella is great!
Restaurant Las Columnas: Mediterranean cuisine on the tip of the beach. You’ll have beautiful views on the sea, tasty food and friendly and quick service.
J. Mullin’s Irish Pub: a pub with great beers, food, dancing, and soccer. Try out their hamburgers!
Sirocco Restaurant: one of the popular restaurants on the promenade, with magnificent sea views. You pay for the location, but still, it doesn’t get costly. It is modern and fresh, on a busy spot.
Keeper bar: a very popular place to get drinks, since it’s at the end of the promenade with views on the sea, market, and peer. Here you’ll see many people passing by. The service is brilliant and their European dishes are worth trying.
Coffee y Tapa: delicious tapas, freshly made, and served with a smile. They are not greedy on the portions and serve the drinks with some nuts or crisps. The owners are proud and that shows in quality! Good location for people watching as well.
Then there is a variety of bars from all nationalities, such as Norwegian bar Old Royal Bar, where you can join in on pool tournaments, live music, and karaoke.
Other activities
Besides the obvious, there is more than only the beach. On the North end of the beach you’ll find the monument for Mediterranean Culture. Walking down South, there are carved out benches on the rocks. One of these benches is home to the statue of La Bella Lola (beautiful Lola). It tells the story of Torrevieja in its olden days, with the fishermen out on the sea, while the women longingly look at the horizon. It’s a beautiful piece of art with a clear story.
Another must see is the pier, or ‘Dique de Levante’. Locals call it the cholesterol route because walking this pier once a day will keep you fit.

Climate and weather
Playa Del Cura enjoys a superb climate. Its location by the sea brings in winds that keep the summers cool and the winters mild. A combination of mountain ranges, the salt lakes and the ocean, has created a special microclimate. On average, this city gets 325 sunny days a year! And due to the extra Iodine and Sodium in the air, the quality is exceptional. Many sufferers of skin, lung, or heart diseases thrive under these circumstances. The WHO has gone out to say this climate is one of the healthiest in the world.
Property market
Torrevieja counts more than 60.000 second residency properties. This city has become known for its real estate and good potential. Playa Del Cura is a well sought after area, because of its proximity to the sea and central location. Still, the prices here are good. There are plenty of resale properties, the majority of which are flats.
There are a few newly built flats in this area. These are more expensive, but also more modern. For new build town houses and villas, you need to move further from the coast.
The population here is mixed. It’s an international area with Spanish and Northern-European residents. What’s nice about this is that you’ll be able to find communities of Swedish, Norwegian, Russian, Belgium, British, and many more nationalities. You can enjoy a drink in your language, or dive in the deep with the locals. The level of spoken English is high, which is helpful for many tourists. The Spanish appreciate it when you try to speak Spanish and will gladly help you in English where possible.
Living in the Playa Del Cura area means having the ocean on your doorstep. It also means having access to central Torrevieja and all amenities on foot, while living in one of the best possible climates. Here you can enjoy all the calm and exotic that Spain has to offer, without it feeling like a world away.
